  • The Issue: Determining effectiveness of catheter-based interventions
  • The Solution: Measuring blood flow along catheters

  • Large and Growing Market: 7 million disposable catheters in 2004

Verimetra is manufacturing blood velocity sensors that are embedded at the tip of very small (3F) catheters. Animal trials using our products are scheduled to begin in early 2004.

Verimetra's device involves the use of a simple thermistor thin film device integrated on the outer surface of the catheter, at the distal end of the catheter. When multiple devices are integrated at different positions at the distal end of the catheter, the system will allow for the measurement of distributed velocity along a blood vessel, such as in the case of a partially blocked artery, as shown schematically in the image below. The company's proprietary manufacturing methods allow for the integration of the MEMS device directly on the catheter.

Selected examples of procedures and applications where our technology add value include:

  • Embolization
  • Stent insertion
  • Stent monitoring
  • PTCA
  • Brain Aneurism
  • Pre-Natal Cardiac Intervention
  • Insulin Islet Transplantation
  • CABG
  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Vulnerable Plaque
